Ria Mae gets Under Your Skin with her debut full-length album, produced by Asif Illyas (MIR), released on August 30, 2011.
Brassy and bold, she's got what it takes to brave the storm, as
she ventures into the depths of her vulnerability, and surfaces with strength and clarity.Moody, melancholic and melodic, Halifax's Mae creates slick pop songs with universal themes – longing, love lost, hearts found.
The title track, "Under Your Skin," is the first single from the new
CD, and was selected for the 2011 Mountain Stage Newsong Contest regional finalist, international region.
Beginning September 3, Mae will perform on tour with Melissa Ferrick, opening for her 17 datesin the US and in Canada.
Ferrick is a Boston-based singer-songwriter with two decades of
experience, 16 albums (Atlantic Records, W.A.R.?, Right On Records, MPress Records) and a rapid fan base. From
Massachusetts to New York and Nashville, Mae and Ferrick make one stop in Toronto at The Horseshoe Tavern on September 14 for the only Canadian date on the CD release tour.
Since the release of her Between The Bad EP (2009), Mae was coined Best New Artist by The Coast, Halifax's weekly, and nominated for a Music Nova Scotia Award. She's shared the
stage with Amelia CurranRose CousinsTanya Davis and
The Cliks.
A versatile artist, she performed the supporting lead role “Emily,”
a renegade homeless musician, in Snow, a film written and
directed by Rohan Fernando. Mae's on-screen performance premiered at California's Cinequest Film Festival and was
